The Leadership Thought for the Fall Newsletter is a copy of a statement released by Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Alumni regarding the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.

"Across the globe, the world's youth and future leaders of our countries agree that this attitude of hatred and animosity toward one another must be put to an end. Although there have been numerous instances of terrorism throughout the world in previous years, this is the point when it can and will be stopped. This display of utter disregard for human life must not be tolerated any longer. Fear will no longer govern how ordinary citizens live their lives.

As youth ambassadors not only of Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership, but also of our respective cities, states, and nations, we unanimously concur that this problem will be the downfall of our society if not dealt with. This is why we have united as one voice, despite any religious, political, and cultural differences, to stand out against terrorism. But accompanying this terrorism is also hatred, not only from those individuals that committed this heinous act, but also for those who seek revenge. An act of terror can in no way be erased, undone, or justified by another act of terror. Singling out and condemning ethnic groups, or anyone for any reason, based on stereotypes will not be tolerated by the youth of our world. Such people are undertaking the same actions as the terrorists themselves. We are a group united in peace, whether our nations are at peace or not. Punishment for these atrocities is decided upon by our nation’s leaders. However, we agree that in order to prevent further terrorist acts of violence, actions must be taken against any persons involved in these incidents.

We are confident that our nation’s leaders, united in solidarity, will continue to organize relief efforts, rebuilding efforts, and peace keeping efforts. We also recognize that now is the time for people to put aside the criticism of their leaders, and put our trust in the hands of a higher power. However, now is the critical time in which America and the world recovers from this devastating shock. We honor those who died to save lives and support those families who were changed forever. We are all victims.

The next few weeks are going to be pivotal moments in the world's history. World leaders have united. Volunteers have united. We, the world's youth, have united. If everyone unites under a common bond of peace and freedom, then terrorism will have seen its last victim on September 11, 2001.

Thank You, and God Bless"

HOBY Scholarship Dinner:
As you all know, HOBY is more than just 3 days in Aspen Grove. Utah HOBY Ambassadors are challenged to return to their schools and communities and demonstrate their leadership and service skills.

Utah alumni benefit from a unique program that brings local colleges and universities to you with scholarship offers following your junior year after submitting a comprehensive report of your activities and leadership experiences over the past year. Following a review of these impressive reports college and university scholarships are awarded at the annual Scholarship Dinner.

This year's HOBY Utah Scholarship Awards Dinner was held on August 4th at the Marriott Hotel in Provo, Utah. The keynote speaker was Mr. G. Donald Gale, a noted former KSL Editorialist and Kiwanian. A total of over $39,000 in tuition scholarships was made available to Utah HOBY Ambassadors.
Congratulations to this year's winners!!

Alumni Reunion Info:
Dear HOBY Alumni -
School is back in session and so are the activities and responsibilities that we have been avoiding and looking forward to all summer. As part of the reunion committee, I am to assist you in planning reunions for your clubs or your area. The goal is to provide a social gathering for each of you to meet up with HOBY friends. The responsibility is yours though.

A reunion can be combined with a service project, small leadership activity, or just a gathering for fun. You can do the reunion within your own club or combine with neighboring clubs. There are a wide variety of possibilities. I recommend first picking a date and then what you want to do at your reunion. I am here to provide you with help any way that I can. Any questions, please email me at hobyreunions@yahoo.com. For the next newsletter I hope that we can report about some of our fun reunions that you have created.
Your HOBY pal --- Lee Gillie

Monica's Fettuccine Alfredo with Broccoli and Chicken
(this makes a HUGE amount of food & will feed anyone for at least a week!)
1 pound Fettuccine noodles (angel hair pasta also works really well)
1 jar Five Brothers Creamy Alfredo Sauce (NO OTHER SAUCE WILL DO!!!)
1 package frozen broccoli florets (the cheap kind works fine)
1 can all white meat chicken breast

1. Boil water and cook the pasta to desired texture (while you're waiting, you can put the broccoli in a microwave-able dish and nuke it for about two minutes, and open and drain the can of chicken).
2. Drain and rinse pasta with hot water from the tap, and pour back into the pot you cooked it in.
3. Add the Alfredo sauce and toss in the noodles till they're well-covered.
4. Toss in broccoli and chicken, mix everything well.

Voila!
