What is a CLEW

The purpose of a CLEW is to provide high school students with a HOBY-style event that motivates them to lead in their communities through service. CLEWs, through guided discovery, provides an atmosphere that stimulates students to think for themselves and encourages their personal development. It is a low-cost, one-day, method for introducing students to leadership and service.

Goals of a CLEW

• To provide leadership training in a low-cost, HOBY-style manner;
• To bring the HOBY program to a greater number of students;
• To provide face-to-face interaction between students and distinguished leaders from all walks of life so that students better understand their roles in our society and their responsibility to service;
• To provide opportunities for HOBY alumni to develop their leadership abilities through organizing and executing a CLEW;
• To increase HOBY alumni future volunteer involvement; and
• To recruit potential speakers, group facilitators, and/or committee members.
